I don't see why it's necessary to put this kind of thing in at all, let alone start crying about it when it doesn't transfer your FoW armour or whatever the hell you want.

GW2 will be a new game; why are people so adamanent about demanding their worldly goods from GW1 be available for them? If those goods are the only thing that drives your desire to play, then maybe you need to rethink what you're doing with your free time.

Play the game for fun, not for acquisitions. I think it scares some people in this thread to think that GW2 sounds the horn that makes everything they've farmed over the last 2 years worthless upon release. Heaven forbid they have to start playing a new game on the same footing as everyone else.

good post frostlight... the devs are 'wanting' us to discuss this... anet is a company that has their fingers on the pulse of the community, and I'm sure some of the threads may have an impact o them.

so for those who make posts like "just leave a-net alone" ...thats not what they want... they are wanting the feedback. And being that the beta is only a little over a year away... and GW:EN even closer... now is the time to bring up the issues that players care about.

Well for me and some of my friends GW:EN may well be the official end point. As for GW2 holding a wait and see stance if nothing much is change i guess we will very much move to WoW or something new after all we are starting back from scratch may as well try something new...

Well, i do remember that there was something said about "armor non proffesion specific, and it being able to be carried around trough anyone" but i can't remember where i've read that

Well, i don't have fow, and i don't want it either, but i can understand that some people want to keep it

Anet certainly would be making the right choice if it's between what they said they were going to do, and what you suggested (which is by no means the only way to go about it).
If you take away everything from your character, all that's left is the Name. And you can keep that.

So I'm sorry, but if my choice is between letting Anet decide how they will remake my character with the same name, or letting me remake my own character with the same name....

I'm sure I'd prefer the latter.

Well, that would work for those who care nothing about the story, appearance, game mechanics and so on. Hey, I can do that even now - delete my pve ele and make a pvp wammo with the same name!

With a bit more imagination I'm sure you can think of something besides the two trivial and extreme examples of transferring either everything, or nothing.

Say, for the sake of argument:

Story: Instead of hundreds of years later, make it within the lifetime of the current characters. Or, use any number of plot devices to explain it - after all, the characters are ascended, close to the stars, defeated a god and whatnot. Certainly Anet think it's fine to have convenient cataclysms and earthquakes repeatedly in order to create landscapes and campaigns.

Items: You can transfer over stuff that do not give undue advantages compared to other new characters. Or, you cannot access them until you've reached a certain stage. e.g. the oft-used method of having imported characters having their stuff stolen at the beginning of the new campaign, which can be recovered later in the game.

Titles: These certainly don't hurt anyone if your imported characters can keep them. Still, if that's a burning issue, you can make them purely legacy and cosmetic, so that they do not give any advantages and cannot be advanced in the new campaign.

Class: If the new campaign uses a classless system, this is a non-issue. If not, you can say give them a one-time primary profession change. Don't see how that would hurt anyone or be unrealistic.

Levels: Have everyone start out at 20. Or have some game event in the plot to reset them to zero.

And so on.

To me, name=cosmetical thing. A persons name can be a number (like 3054) instead of letters, and the outcome in gameplay can still be the same.

To me, armor and weapon skins=cosmetics. A skin can be a just a template for looks, same as a name. I don't see a reason why Anet wouldn't allow this but would allow names.

I laugh at those who stop QQing because they think they can transfer their FoW armours to their new toons in GW2.

Who knows maybe they cry more, we might even see the day that Anet finally give in and let them transfer their entire toons over to GW2.

We still got 2 years, that means alot of QQing posts and threads until then. Personally i am sick of the PvE vs PvP debate in GW1 and if its going to be the same BS again in GW2, then it can go ahead and launch itself into the depth of space for all i care.

i don't understand why anet refuses to let charc port over to GW2. IMO, this is the biggest block that PVE charcs are hesitating in getting a confirmation buy in GW2.

Meh, according to the story, its only 100 years.

Shiro even managed to come back to life after 200 years.

What i think should be, is for the dev. to make a side quest that allow players to port their old charcs from GW1. At least give people an option whether they wanna port their old charcs

Well for start anything new take it a car or new PC there will be issue trying to retro fit some old device on to it. And Anet most likely dislike having to waste man power or resource on it (my speculation). Giving people option to just port over only speed up the process towards the end game and all the complain start all over again.

Well for my case i would want to port over my stuff, it a chip on the balance scales of Themis. Since we will be starting from scratch might want to try something new like WoW but still holding a wait and see stance

GW 2 is a new game. Would that qualify for "something new" that you would like to try about?

GW 2 would be an entirely new game. Carry over of titles and or weapons doesn't matter IMO. Trying to play another game? Why don't you try GW 2. For me, Anet listening to players' wants is what Anet separates it from other games. So they have my trust on this one

Yes it would be something new but still too early pass judgment until i get all my facts straight.

As for Carry over of titles and or weapon doesn't matter i don't quite agree as i have spend a lot of time amassing wealth and item and titles in my spare time and been bankrupt all over again would make anyone sore.

As much as Anet concern i would like it to do well but i have my own reality if there a problem i can't go around telling others there none right.

Do you know what does it mean to be a opposition, we are flame bait for start and the rest goes without saying.

Like i said before i am holding a wait and see stance and hope Anet delivers it
